Music Together is a fun, family music program
for children and the parents/caregivers who love them. It
is based on the premise that all children are musical. The
parents and other primary caregivers play a crucial role in
nurturing their child's musical development; it is for this
reason that adult involvement and participation is essential.
The teacher helps adults understand how to participate, relax,
and enjoy the activities with their children. Regardless of
their musical background, parents learn many ways to make
music and move with their children.
Music Together Is based on the premise that all children can
achieve basic music competence, that is, sing in tune and
move in time to the beat. Children participate at their own
level, with no performance pressure. We don’t require that the children
sit still, but respond spontaneously to the playful, musical environment
around them.
Classes meet once a week for 45 minutes to sing, chant, move,
dance, and jam! The curriculum is research-based and includes
9 different song collections as well as three summer collection
compilations, rotated over a three year period. The collections
each provide a wealth of music in a variety of meters, tonalities,
and cultural styles. Original songs, chants, and instrument
play-alongs by the program co-authors, Lili Levinowitz and
Ken Guilmartin, make each collection special and unique.
